Hello everyone! As a student teacher navigating the world of teaching, I have seen the rise of media technology in the classroom. Technology has significantly replaced the use of notebooks, worksheets, and physical copies of novels, as students now access these items through their loaned Chromebooks. I believe technology has, in many ways, positively impacted teaching because it allows teachers to present creative lessons through slides and engage students with visuals, helping them make meaningful connections. It also allows teachers to grade more efficiently and provide instant feedback. Technology is additionally beneficial when students are absent, as they can catch up with the class by accessing shared lesson slides.
On the other hand, the use of technology in the classroom can be ineffective because of the distractions it poses. For instance, students often play games or watch unrelated videos, which prevents them from learning. It can also be difficult for teachers to monitor each screen and ensure that each student stays on track. Moreover, access to AI resources can encourage cheating and undermine the purpose of the lesson. I have also seen technology be ineffective when students have issues with Wi-Fi or low charge.
Although laptops have provided students with access to more resources, I still believe that physical copies of books are important because they allow students to annotate and engage more deeply with the stories. For this reason, I believe a balance is necessary for an effective learning environment. With balance and guidance, students can learn to use their resources effectively, encouraging them to gain independence.
